Astound Broadband Powered by Wave Approved Modems

Three recommended modems for Astound Broadband powered by Wave internet services appear on this page. Categorized under three attributes: value, DOCSIS 3.1, and WiFi, the best Astound Broadband powered by Wave approved modems follow below.

If you meet the following Astound Broadband powered by Wave requirements, a modem should work on their network.

  • At least 16 Downstream Channels
  • DOCSIS 3.0 or DOCSIS 3.1 certified
  • Cannot be an eMTA (cable modem and telephone adapter); phone service requires an Astound Broadband provided eMTA (you can still use your own modem with the eMTA)
  • Customers with fiber-to-the-home or Ethernet-delivered service must use an Astound Broadband internet device
  • Currently not compatible with the Astound Broadband network: Motorola MB8600 DOCSIS 3.1 modem

Read the Cable Modem Buying Guide to help you choose a modem. Do not forget to purchase your modem accessories.

Internet providers have begun removing some DOCSIS 3.0 modems from their networks. To maximize the years of use from a modem, it is strongly recommended to purchase a DOCSIS 3.1 device (the latest standard).

  1. Its unfair to charge poor people for voip service modem.
I have a better modem and separate router of my own. I resent I cannot purchase a modem with voip. I pay for internet and quit TV since it is too costly. My wave phone is gov discount life saver

    • Yes, it is unfair. You would think the ISPs (internet service providers) would offer a reduced rate for low-income families, but they often do not.

  2. It would be nice if the list of modems could be filtered and sorted. For the webmaster/programmer, there are plug-ins that make this easy to do.

    Reply
    • Sorting tables was briefly looked into but that function requires JavaScript, which introduces two problems. First, JavaScript may contain vulnerabilities. Second, JavaScript introduces render-blocking (slows the loading of websites). While it would be nice to sort tables, it is a function that few people would probably use. Compare that to everybody (from website visitors to Google) requiring a website to load fast, the decision was made to rather have a faster-loading website than having sortable tables. Sorry, SR.

The goal is to actually remove all JavaScript from the site when it is feasible. Thanks for the request, SR, but the tables will not be sortable until it can be achieved without JavaScript.

  3. You should add the new “ARRIS S33” cable modem to your list for Wave. It is a DOCSIS 3.1 (10+Gbps) (32×8+) and works great with my 1Gig service with Wave. It does not have Wi-Fi so you would need a Router.

  4. The net gear cm1000 is one of the two modems approved by wave for 1 gig service. However Net Gear has now upgraded to the CM1100. It is now capable of supporting multi gig service. Any idea if/when this modem will be approved by wave? Currently it is on sale at Costco for only $119!!

  5. Have you come up with an approved AIO modem/wi-fi and voice piece of hardware yet? if not and I get a modem/wi-fi combo, how do I do voice?

    Reply
    • Wave needs to manage the phone capabilities of any voice modem, so if you need voice services, you must rent a device from Wave. Your local Wave office may offer you a 3-in-1 device (your results may vary depending on your local office). You can contact Wave for this information. You can rent a phone modem and purchase your own modem/WiFi combo. You may use a cable splitter to hook everything together.

Susan, your best option is to purchase your own combo unit and combine that with an Ooma device. Ooma works with any internet connection, not just Wave. This way you are not tied to only Wave’s phone capabilities. Ooma is probably cheaper for you as well.

  6. When I was having problems with my Arris SBG7400AC modem (which is not recommended by this website), I had a Wave technician come out. He recommended buying the Netgear modem sold by Costco.

  7. I was a Wow customer who lost service during the switchover to Astound. I’m being told I need to have a service technician visit which cannot be scheduled for several weeks. In reviewing my equipment my Wow supplied modem is a Technicolor CGA 4235 with VoIP capability. According to the Astound information, voip is not compatible. Is my solution to buy a compatible modem and install it myself? My guess is if I wait several weeks for a tech, they will simply swap out the modem.

    Reply
    • For phone service, Gary, you will need to use an Astound Broadband provided eMTA (cable modem and telephone adapter). The tech will provide this to you when they swap out the equipment. You can not use your own voice modem; you must use the Astound Broadband provided device. You can view more info about phone service on the Astound Broadband website (look for the question: Are there any BYOM restrictions?).

  8. Hello, thanks for your assistance, I just spoke with Astound, Im in Wave Broadband area, and have gigabit internet, currently with a Tp link Archer, ac1750 that is not ideal. They rep stated for my area and speeds a DOCSIS 3.1 is needed, which I am fine with, I would like to verify that information and get a recommendation for a wifi 6, router/gateway for my home.

    Reply
    • Yes, Michael, you definitely want to go with DOCSIS 3.1 as DOCSIS 3.0 is being phased out by every internet provider in the coming months. The two best options for you with WiFi 6 capabilities is either the NETGEAR CAX30S or the NETGEAR CAX80. Both models are capable of at least 2 Gbps speeds (when they become available in your area). DOCSIS 3.0 can barely reach 1 Gbps speeds. You will want something that can grow as faster speeds become available from Astound Broadband.
