Is the Arris Surfboard T25 under consideration for WAVE users who want to have DOCSIS 3.1 and EMTA?
Tony, you can not purchase your own eMTA. If you need phone service from Wave, you must use a Wave provided eMTA. The device you receive from Wave will depend on what your local office has in stock. You can avoid an eMTA and just buy a DOCSIS 3.1 modem and combine that with a device like an Ooma, which provides cheap phone service by using any internet connection.
There are other issues with the ARRIS T25. The device is exclusively for use with Comcast only and it also contains a bad Intel Puma chipset.
Hello , Your site is terrific. Thank you for the useful information. My issue is with Xfinity Comcast . Since reluctantly going back to Comcast for the
supposedly high speeds I have raised my plan four times from 100 mps, 200 mps, 400 mps , 600 mps and now at 900 mps. From my checks I have never received any different speed than what I originally had , so purchasing a higher plan was not helpful. I currently have my own modem /router a Motorola MG 7550 that can handle speeds up to 300 mps. My question is Comcast told me recently I need to rent a newer unit from them or purchase a newer unit to handle higher speeds. My cable runs directly from them into my modem with no splitters . I asked them to tell me how many mps they were supplying me at my modem when they were here to check my low speeds , which I got no answer too. When they told me I needed a new modem/ router I asked why would I need a new one if all they were giving me was 40 mps download at best and 7-9 upload.
Am i wrong in my thinking , do I need a new router ? I would be happy with 100 mps ,lol. I am paying for up to 900 mps and the best I have ever seen on a check is 38.7 download. I guess what I am asking is if they are giving much less than my MG 7550 can handle what good will a higher modem/ router do me. Thank you again for your site.
First, Harry, a combo modem/router unit often have poor WiFi performance, so if you do purchase a new modem, buy a stand-alone router to go with the modem. Or if you must use a combo unit, upgrade to a WiFi 6 router device like the NETGEAR CAX80 or the NETGEAR CAX30S. You can read about the benefits of WiFi 6.
A wireless signal will always be slower. There are various factors such as the number of devices, building materials and devices from your neighbors that can affect WiFi performance. You did not say if you tested your download speed with a wired connection. That is what you should use to determine your download speed (WiFi speed will be slower). If you test with a wired connection and it is not the speed you are paying for, the MG7550 may be defective or there is an issue with your cable line. The Motorola MG7550 definitely can not handle 900 Mbps, so the likely option for you is to try a new device. You should invest in a DOCSIS 3.1 modem since you are getting close to 1 Gig and beyond speeds anyway.
